Needing some time in the sunshine (or sunshee-yine!). Sunshine Blogger Award!

Yes, I used an Oasis reference in the title. D’you know what I mean?

I was recently nominated for the Sunshine Blogger Award by Pinkie from Pinkie’s Paradise. Thank you very much! Pinkie has been awesome in spreading the positivity around here. Given this current situation in the world, I could use all the positivity I can around here.

Here are the rules.

-List the rules and display the Sunshine Blogger Award logo.
– Thank the person who nominated you and provide a link to their blogging sites.
-Answer their questions.
-Nominate up to 11 bloggers and ask them 11 questions.
-Notify your nominees by commenting on their blog posts.

Here are Pinkie’s questions! I’ll do my best to answer them.

1.Are there any bloggers you consider as actual friends?

The most obvious one is Jeannette Jonic whom I know in real life as we both went to the same university. She’s a very talented writer and she’s been super supportive of my creative endeavors. Outside of her, I would consider bloggers such as Angela Grant, Dr. Y., Scott from Mechanical Anime Reviews, blkpride, Kreb, Ashley Capes, and Irina to be great friends in the blogging world to name a few.

2. Are you in a relationship? And how does that affect your blogging?

I’m single and it does give me more time for blogging. Don’t get me wrong, I would like to have a girlfriend, but I want to make sure I’m ready for a serious relationship before I commit.

3. Can you cook? What is your favorite dish to make?

I’m getting there. My favorite dish to make so far is stir-fry ramen with spinach and Khoisan salt. That’s been great.

4. What is the next milestone you have in mind for your blog? What do you want to reach?

Reaching 100 followers on here would be quite nice.

I have some other goals for this year since I still need to complete my Satoshi Kon challenge (just one more anime!), my 5 African movies from countries I’ve never covered challenge, and my goal to review an anime series longer than 52 episodes. Spoiler alert: The review for the long anime series drops THIS SATURDAY!

5. Do you have any pets?

I don’t have any pets at this time.

6. Do you have any other creative outlets other than blogging?

I sure do! I’m an author, I’m a musician, and I do videography.

7. Name something you’d really like to talk about, that doesn’t really fit your blog…and feel free to talk about it.

It certainly helps when you have multiple blogs covering different subjects, right? Haha! In this case, I’m NOT going to talk about movies and anime for this question.

I’ve been doing everything I can to prove that I’m talented and not useless. One of the things I’ve been doing recently is learning other languages. Some of you might remember me mentioning in passing with me learning Lingala after finding out I’m part Congolese (Mbote, bandeko! Nsango nini?). I want to learn other languages so I can talk to other cultures and even do something constructive by being a polyglot. You know what they say: What do you call someone who knows three or more languages? A polyglot. What do you call someone who knows two languages? Bilingual? What do you call someone who only knows one language? American.

There is so much truth in that joke.

8. Do your real life friends and family follow your blog? Mine don’t .. do you think that is weird?

We’re in the same boat, Pinkie.  A couple of my real life friends follow my work, but I only occasionally showing my family my posts. I don’t think that’s weird.

9. Do you have any non geeky hobbies?

Exercising, learning about African history and following Caribbean cricket. I almost put BritWres, but I think that’s considered geeky nowadays.

10. Describe the room you are writing this blog from!

My office has multiple notebooks with things I’ve been studying, there’s a globe with accurate dimensions of the continents, and there are two Pop Vinyls on my desk: Megaman and Kimba.

11. Free space, feel free to promote, post pictures, link to other blogs or go wild! Show us you on a plate… but not a real plate.

I’ll promote the following people:

ZAP Records
Lingala Academy
Dr. Mumbi Show
Arka’n
Wrestling Resurgence
Caribbean Premier League
“Big Wavy” Roy Johnson

Here are my questions for my nominees:

-Which actor or actress do you think is overlooked by the public and what role would you like to see them in?

-If you could have a crossover between an anime and something involving Western animation, what would they be and what would the plot look like?

-What is your favorite thing about international cinema?

-If you could switch a theme song from a movie or TV series with a different song, what would it be and why?

-What book would you like to see adapted onto the screen? This could be a novel or comic book, by the way.

-What band would you like to see compose an entire soundtrack? What kind of movie would they score?

-What is the least favorite thing from a creator you really like?

-Who would you like to see voicing over a documentary that has never done so before? What would the documentary be about?

-Which actor would sound ridiculous if they tried an accent outside of their own?

-Who do you think is the most overrated film or animation director?

-What is your greatest wish for cinema and/or animation? This could be realistic or a pipe dream.

Here are my nominees:

-Ashley Capes
-Never Argue With a Fish
-Tiger Anime
-dbmoviesblog
-18 Cinema Lane
-Inskidee
-Lumi
-Traditional Catholic Weeb

    • Thank you so much, Dr. Y! I really appreciate the encouragement. I have some African movie reviews planned in April and May. One of them involves a musician that we both like, too.

    • Very nice! I can’t wait to see your post about this award.

Thank you. I’ve been reading lots of language books. It would also be good to go back into learning Japanese in addition to Lingala and other languages.
